Variety Is Concert Programme

Presented by The Thames Valley District School Board Secondary Musical Department.

Massive concert showcases musical talent of students
Tuesday, March 23, 2010 – More than 1,000 students from across Thames Valley will come together in bands, orchestras, ensembles and choirs for a massive show of student music at the John Labatt Centre next week.

The annual event, known as Variety Is …, provides an opportunity for the public to experience the exceptional talents of today’s youth. Thames Valley’s music programs are among the strongest in the province, with high levels of participation and dedicated educators.

This year’s event kicks off with an opening number by the “Thames Valley Strings” – a colossal orchestra of 250 string players from across the district. Musicians from various schools also team up to form the "Thames Valley Honour Band," a tradition on the program that showcases the talents of some of the best student musicians in Southwestern Ontario.

Two new ensembles this year include the "Honour Jazz Band," made up of senior jazz band students, and the "Thames Valley Men's Honour Choir," consisting of all male voices from a variety of the board's fantastic choral programs.

The name of this annual event reflects the variety of musical genres from classical to rock to jazz performed by a variety of musical ensembles from bands, choirs, jazz bands, orchestras and guitar ensembles.

The concert has been sponsored by London Life for the last two years and is also sponsored this year by Harrison Pensa and Filion Wakely Thorup Angeletti.
